Driver of pickup hauling scrap on I-75 dies in crash in Birch Run Township

SAGINAW, MI — The driver of a pickup hauling scrap with a trailer was killed when his vehicle left Interstate 75 and struck a tree at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, according to the Michigan State Police.

The crash occurred south of Birch Run Road.

Traffic was blocked at the location and in multiple areas on southbound I-75 for the crash and other accidents, Saginaw County 911 reported.

The pickup is described as a full size gold Chevrolet, MSP said.

The roadway was covered lightly with snow and was icy at the time of the crash.

Northbound traffic was not affected. Multiple on-ramps to southbound I-75 were also temporarily closed. 

Police are not releasing the victim’s name pending notification of family members.
